Strengthening Yemeni Communities

BOOST, which stands for “Building Our Organization Sustainably and Technically,” provides these initiatives with training that covers everything their leaders need to know to run successful and sustainable projects, from how to design and evaluate their projects to how to write proposals that meet the expectations and requirements of donors. Some of the organizations also receive mini-grants and practical support while they implement their ideas after qualifying through a competitive process for mini-grants and practical support. 

Advancing Entrepreneurship in Lebanon and the MENA

The AEI’s commitment to entrepreneurship was on display in November 2023, when it brought speakers from the worlds of entrepreneurship and capacity building for Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW).

The Amideast sessions echoed GEW's message of action, knowledge, and connection. Eight in all and varying in focus, the talks and workshops turned the spotlight on the entrepreneurial mindset, skills, and knowledge and what it takes to advance entrepreneurship in a landscape shaped by Lebanon’s unique economic and social challenges.

Farah Abdel-Jawad, Drexel University

Farah graduated from Drexel University with a major in architectural engineering and a minor in global studies. At Drexel, she translated her passion for social issues into meaningful work as co-founder of the Middle Eastern and North African Club and Students for Justice in Palestine.

Fulbright Grants Program Enables Alumni to Give Back

Montadhar Al-Moussawi (Iraq) is a Fulbright alum from 2019 and attended the University of Wyoming. He was awarded an ACAG to implement “Off-Grid Solar Photovoltaic System for a Countryside Primary School,” a project that will harness solar power to provide electricity to a primary school in Najaf, Iraq, taking advantage of the city’s sunny climate, long days, and clear sky.

Reaching New Communities in Jordan

With a third of its population of 11 million under the age of 30, youth unemployment averaging 36 percent in the past decade, and one of the world’s lowest female labor participation rates, Jordan faces considerable demographic challenges that is further complicated by the presence of nearly 4 million Syrian and Palestinian refugees and the lingering effects of the Covid pandemic on employment.

Moroccan Youth Gain Job Skills

Amideast’s Skills for Success program is designed to strengthen the employment prospects of recent graduates by improving their proficiency in workplace English and equipping them with personal and professional skills that facilitate their entry to the job market. In addition to 120 hours of English language instruction and training in computer/IT and professional skills, the program includes a transition-to-work component of supplemental English training, TOEIC test preparation, entrepreneurship awareness, or internships.

Empowering Young Global Citizens through Virtual Exchange

Launched in April 2021, Qisasna is Amideast’s first program to receive funding from the Stevens Initiative, an international effort that aims to build global competence and career readiness skills for youth in the United States and the Middle East and North Africa. Funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the initiative focuses on growing and enhancing the field of virtual exchange.
