Statement on Ismail Ajjawi

After obtaining a U.S. visa, Ismail traveled from his home in Tyre, Lebanon, to Boston Logan International Airport on Friday, August 23rd. Upon his arrival to the U.S., immigration officials questioned Ismail for several hours and examined his social media before refusing him entry.

Ismail is one of the most talented students that Amideast has worked with through the Hope Fund program. He achieved one the highest scores in Lebanon on the baccalaureate exam this summer and plans to major in biology.

Planting a Tree for Youth in Lebanon

In June, in conjunction with their semiannual meeting in Beirut, they demonstrated their commitment to youth in a novel way by planting a cedar tree in the Barouk Cedar Reserve. Explaining their gesture, Board Chair Mrs. Wafa Saab said, “The cedar, a symbol of elevation, eternity and strength, affirms our commitment to our mission to create hope among the youth of Lebanon and beyond, and to provide them with life-changing opportunities.”

Welcoming the DKSSF Class of 2018!

The 10 men and eight women from Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, and Yemen are beginning their undergraduate studies on scholarships earned with the support of the DKSSF from Dartmouth, Smith, and Swarthmore Colleges; Columbia, Drexel, Harvard, Jacksonville, Princeton, and Wesleyan Universities; the Universities of Pennsylvania and Rochester; Hult International Business School; Sewanee: The University of the South; and NYU Abu Dhabi and Yale-National University of Singapore (NUS).
