TOEFL® Young Students Series

Start your students off on a path to success with TOEFL Junior testing. You can use TOEFL Junior to ensure appropriate class placement, to monitor progress, and even as part of your school’s admission process. Results help you make the best decisions and guide students in improving their skills. TOEFL Junior provides —

  • In-depth analysis specifically focused on the language skills of English language learners aged 11 and up, including middle and secondary school students
  • Excellent preparatory experience for international standardized English testing
  • Detailed score reports with performance descriptors to guide further instruction

TOEFL Junior is mapped to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), the most widely used international standard for language proficiency. Knowing CEFR levels allows greater understanding of learner abilities and alignment across curricula, textbooks, and other language learning assessments.

Results also include a Lexile® measure allowing teachers, parents, and students to easily identify reading materials at the right level for individual needs and interests.

TOEFL Junior is based on the rich heritage of the TOEFL® family of tests, and on extensive research by the world’s largest and leading test development agency, ETS®.

TOEFL Junior and TOEFL are trademarks of Educational Testing Service (ETS), used under license.

The TOEFL Junior test gives schools an objective measure of young students' English-language proficiency. The test is not limited to any specific curriculum and is geared for middle- and secondary-level students.

The TOEFL Junior Standard test measures listening comprehension, language form and meaning, and reading comprehension. It is available in a choice of paper-based and online formats and takes just under two hours to complete, allowing for in-depth and reliable skills analysis. It can be administered on site on dates chosen by your school. Amideast provides quick scoring turnaround of results, often within one business day.

There is also an optional online TOEFL Junior Speaking test, approximately twenty minutes in length and administered on set dates during the academic year. Tests are scored by highly trained human raters at ETS.

Multiple forms of both tests are available for secure re-testing throughout the year.

In addition to detailed score reports, optional certificates are available to recognize student achievement.

The Lexile® measure provided on each score report together with CEFR level can be used with the free Lexile database of hundreds of thousands of books, searchable by student interests. A separate TOEFL Junior Lexile database also provides shorter “Instant Reading” passages that can be drawn on for immediate classroom use.
