Learning for Practitioners

OVERVIEW

Learning for Practitioners (LfP) is a series of short term programs developed specifically for faculty, administrators, and staff at US educational institutions, members of professional institutions, and Amideast alumni. Each program is developed with a specific theme in mind, with an overall goal of introducing participants to the wide range of opportunities in our host countries, as well as familiarizing them with the local culture and host cities.

ELIGIBILITY

We welcome applications from:

American University in Dubai Direct Enroll - Summer

American University in Dubai (AUD)

Students on this program will have the opportunity to directly enroll at AUD to participate in one or two summer sessions, which are each 7 weeks long. With ABET, AACSB, NAAB and numerous other accreditations, AUD's many schools and departments allow students from a wide variety of academic majors to engage their disciplines with professors and peers from around the world in a MENA region context. The American University in Dubai is patterned on the American model of higher education and classes are taught in English.

American University in Dubai Direct Enroll - Semester or AY

American University in Dubai (AUD)

Students on this program will have the opportunity to directly enroll at AUD and normally will take 13-16 credits per semester. With ABET, AACSB, NAAB and numerous other accreditations, AUD's many schools and departments allow students from a wide variety of academic majors to engage their disciplines with professors and peers from around the world in a MENA region context. The American University in Dubai is patterned on the American model of higher education and classes are taught in English.

  • The program includes 2 courses and additional pre-work prior to arrival
  • "Life Cycle of Peace & Conflict: Lessons Learned in Northern Ireland" course in Dublin, Ireland
  • A study tour to Derry, Northern Ireland to contextualize theory on peace and conflict resolution
  • "Conflict Resolution & Management: Beyond the Arab-Israeli Conflict" course in Amman, Jordan
  • Students examine the Arab/Israeli conflict, regional conflicts such as those in Lebanon, Yemen, and/or Iraq, and intra- and inter-tribal conflicts, all of which are add

Academic Overview

  • Colloquial Tunisian Arabic (1 credit)
  • Community-Based Learning Course (3 credits)

Social Innovation Abroad

This program has a front-loaded, 15 contact-hour crash course in Tunisian Arabic, together with Amideast Education Abroad's Community-Based Learning (CBL) course, a 45 contact-hour course about contemporary Tunisia that helps students contextualize their worksite experiences.
