Inspire: Youth English & STEM Skills Program

YOUTH ENGLISH & STEM SKILLS PROGRAM

Amideast’s Inspire program was launched in 2018 in Irbid for 80 Jordanian and Syrian youth ages 13-15. With support from the U.S. Department of State and the Regional English Language Office at the U.S. Embassy in Jordan, the first Amideast Inspire program provided 300 hours of English language development, youth—led community service activities and life skills building experiences such as learning new sports with Jordan Olympic Committee, learning the basics of yoga and ju-jitsu from Jordanian instructors and trainers as well as developing self-actualization through drama and theater workshops with the National Center for Culture and Arts.

The pilot Inspire program ended in October 2020.

The second Amideast Inspire program, known as Inspire II, was launched in November 2020 and will support a second cohort of 80 Jordanian and Syrian youth in the Irbid area through English, community service and life skills development, with added components of parental, teacher and community support activities as well as a youth-focused STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) component using the Arabic-language curriculum and Simple & Powered Machines builder sets from LEGO Education.
