Director of Programs

Dr. Meriem Guetat is an experienced professional in international education and program management. Currently serving as the Director of Programs at Amideast, she brings over a decade of hands-on experience from her work in North Africa. In her present role, she oversees a diverse range of educational and training programs across the organization as well as manages the implementation of Amideast proprietary exchange programs. Before her current position, Dr. Guetat held diverse roles at Amideast, being the Program Development Manager at Amideast HQ and the Director of Programs at Amideast Tunisia and Libya Operations.

From 2017 to 2021, Dr. Guetat served as the Associate Director of the Centre d’Etudes Maghrébines à Tunis (CEMAT), the overseas research Institute of the American Institute for Maghrib Studies (AIMS). Her role focused on promoting the exchange of ideas between U.S. and North African scholars, alongside leading the research team "The Maghrib in Transition," funded by the Carnegie Corporation in New York and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC).

Dr. Guetat is also a scholar of international law, having lectured at the School of Legal, Political, and Social Sciences of Tunis on various law subjects. Her scholarly work has been published in respected journals such as Middle East Law and Governance and Annuaire international de droit constitutionnel. Her reports, opinion pieces, and analyses are featured on platforms such as Jadaliyya, DGAP, and ISPI.

Dr. Guetat holds a PhD in international law from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis. She is a native speaker of Arabic and Farsi and fluently communicates in English, French, and Italian.
