Why I Think Community Is the Most Important Code We Write

As a Google Developer Student Club leader, I’m excited to build a community for computer science and business students, helping them learn essential skills. I want to give back to everyone who’s supported me, starting with Amideast, where as an MSSF scholar, I always felt like part of a community.

Since grade 7, I’ve been passionate about computer science. I joined the 1M Arab Coders program, learning web development, Python, and Java. I was young and using an old computer, but I knew this was what I wanted to do, especially learning and helping others in this field. In grade 9, I participated in a hackathon sponsored by Egypt’s Ministry of Communications, ranking in the top 100 out of 4,000-5,000 participants, one of the youngest competitors. This experience solidified my career path and taught me that believing in yourself allows you to achieve anything in life.

As a GDSC leader, I’m constantly learning and sharing knowledge; it’s a two-way street. I’m not only teaching, but learning from fellow students, professors, and other leaders across the country and abroad. It’s important to be open, believe in yourself, and embrace others.

Life is full of challenges, but every setback is an opportunity to grow. If you’re not facing challenges, you’re not learning. Sometimes, you have to tackle things on your own, especially when you’re far from home. Homesickness hits hard, and I often miss my family, but I remind myself that I’m here to grow and become a better version of myself. Whenever I feel like retreating into my comfort zone, I tell myself, ‘Wake up! We’re doing great things here.’ Challenges are part of the journey.
