Amideast Appoints New Country Director in Egypt

Washington, DC, October 10, 2013Amideast is pleased to welcome Shahinaz Ahmed as the new country director for Amideast’s field operation in Egypt. Ms. Ahmed, who will be based in Cairo, takes charge of Amideast’s largest field operation, with offices in Cairo and Alexandria, as well as its oldest. Under her leadership, Amideast/Egypt, will continue its commitment to meeting Egypt’s growing need for educational and training opportunities, especially for youth, women, and less advantaged groups.
 
Ms. Ahmed brings to Amideast over 20 years of experience in the areas of educational management, workforce development, and instructional systems design.  She helped to establish Education for Employment Foundation (EFE) in Egypt and served as its CEO for the past seven years, overseeing the design and implementation of EFE’s employment-driven educational programs for unemployed youth.  Previously, Ms. Ahmed served as an independent educational planning and training consultant, advising clients including Citibank, UNICEF, and the Egyptian Tourism Federation.  From 1999 to 2004, she worked for Amideast/Egypt, initially as a senior training associate and then as the director of the English Language Programs Department. 
 
Ms. Ahmed has a Master of Arts in Education and International Development from the University of London and a Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the American University in Cairo.  In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from Alexandria University.
 
Amideast/Egypt services include English language and professional skills training, educational advising and testing, scholarship exchange program administration, and institutional capacity building. Amideast has partnered with the U.S. and Egyptian governments, international organizations, local NGOs, and the private sector on projects to address specific workforce needs, expand English language instruction in Egypt’s urban centers beyond Cairo and Alexandria, support entrepreneurship training for women and others, and enhance the institutional capacity of the country’s administration of justice system.
