Serving Under-Resourced and Marginalized Communities

In 2022, we made a difference in the lives of 7,000 underserved individuals and communities by:

  • Enabling more than 4,000 teenagers in Egypt, Jordan, Libya, the UAE, the West Bank and Gaza, and Yemen to develop English language and other skills that will expand their access to educational and career opportunities, through the English Access Microscholarship Program and similar programs.
  • Advancing the college dreams of 174 talented youth from Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, and Tunisia through our Hope and MENA Scholarship Support Funds.
  • Achieving inclusion in Egyptian higher education by awarding university scholarships to more than 50 students with disabilities and working with 20 Egyptian public universities to establish centers that serve students with disabilities on their campuses, through the U.S.-Egypt Higher Education Initiative.
  • Improving the mental health and psychosocial well-being of 64 instructors and 1,138 students in the West Bank and Gaza, supporting their development of mechanisms for self-expression through nontraditional teaching methods such as art and music.
  • Furthering the English language and academic skills of 480 Syrian refugee youth in Jordan, increasing their chances of earning international scholarships and securing employment.
  • Launching 31 Palestinian youth residing in Lebanon on entrepreneurial journeys through training in workplace and entrepreneurial skills.
  • Increasing the English language and academic skills of more than 500 refugee youth from Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Eritrea, and Ethiopia living in the Egyptian cities of Alexandria, Cairo, and Damietta.
  • Improving English language proficiency, digital literacy, STEM awareness, and understanding of American cultural values and traditions of 120 Jordanian and Syrian youth in Jordan as part of our broader effort to enhance education and career options for vulnerable youth.

We are grateful to USAID, the U.S. Department of State, UNICEF, Catholic Relief Services, the Palestinian Student Fund, U.S. embassies throughout the MENA region, and other partners for making our work in this area possible.
