Access Students

English Access Microscholarship (Access) Program

The English Access Microscholarship (Access) Program provides a foundation of English language skills to talented 13-15 year-olds from economically disadvantaged sectors through after-school classes and intensive sessions. These English skills may lead to better jobs and educational prospects. Participants also gain the ability to compete for and participate in future exchanges and study in the United States.

THE PROGRAM

Students participate in around 300 hours of English language instruction and 60 hours of extracurricular activities, including additional workshops that introduce the youth to American culture, community issues, service learning, and career enhancement resources. The English language curriculum strengthens speaking, writing, listening, and reading skills. Additional activities may include guest speakers, relevant cultural field trips within Jordan (such as films, exhibitions and concerts), and visits to different organizations for enriching workshops. Access students who excel may qualify for special Access enrichment programs or scholarships such as the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program.
