AMIDEAST Education Abroad Programs Receive High Marks in 2013 Study Abroad Rankings

AMIDEAST ranked seventh among providers of study abroad programs for Americans and its Area & Arabic Language Studies Program in Rabat, Morocco, was rated fifth among single programs in the latest worldwide annual rankings issued by Abroad101, the oldest and largest study abroad review website.

Abroad101’s “2013 Study Abroad Rankings” rated AMIDEAST’s Education Abroad Programs in the Arab World on the basis of its 18 programs in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Oman, and Tunisia, which offer study and intensive language options.  They received an overall score of 4.6 out of 5, while its Rabat program received “five stars” from 19 out of 22 reviewers. The website noted that a student reviewer described the Rabat program as “challenging in all the right ways,” while another one noted, “The on-site staff in [sic] incredibly helpful, kind, and caring. Any problem that any of us had was taken care of promptly by the staff there.”

The rankings, which Abroad101 published in March 2014, are gaining in importance as an increasing number of American students become interested in study abroad, and the number and variety of programs and destinations grow. The website, established in 2007 to facilitate information sharing about study abroad options, has become one of the most popular sources that students turn to for information and guidance as they weigh their options.

Abroad101 based its rankings on reviews of study abroad programs by more than 16,000 students from more than 200 American universities who attended credit-bearing study abroad programs during 2013. Its ability to assemble a large pool of evaluation data, thanks to its partnerships with many universities, is the strength of the Abroad101 website.  The reviews are broadly available to universities and students seeking information about study abroad options. Study abroad program providers also can use Abroad101 to list their programs  and reach prospective students.
