 For women who dare to dream

In 2008, the Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. announced 10,000 Women, a global initiative that will provide 10,000 underserved women with a business and management education. The American University in Cairo is one of the partnering universities in the initiative, working with The Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania to create the Women’s Entrepreneurship and Leadership Program (WEL), a business and management certificate program specifically for women in Egypt and the region. Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. is the official sponsor for the leadership program. AMIDEAST is administrating the program in the Middle East.

Recipients of the scholarship should show the following:

  • Underserved financially, meaning she financially needs this training and could not afford it otherwise
  • Has little or no overseas educational experience
  • Has an established businesses or a business that is under establishment (NGO leaders may also apply)
  • She may also be a partner in a business or is working in top-level management at the business
  • Shows leadership potential
  • The business offers services that are needed in the community it serves
  • Or the business is in a growth area and can expand by hiring more people

The WEL program course is open to residents of Egypt, the West Bank and Jordan, including but not limited to Palestinian or Iraqi residents of Jordan and elsewhere.

The fully-funded course, including travel expenses, is at AUC and instruction is in Arabic. Any participants who do not live in Cairo will be provided housing.
