Diana Kamal Scholarship Search Fund

For U.S. University Study Beginning in Fall 2011 or 2012

This fund was established in memory of Senior Vice President Diana Kamal who passed away after 28 years of distinguished service at AMIDEAST. In recognition of her dedication to international educational exchange, this fund identifies talented young Arab students and matches them with scholarship opportunities at U.S. colleges and universities.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR THE DKSSF PROGRAM?

Students currently residing in the West Bank or Gaza (Applicants must not be U.S. citizens or holders of American “green cards”)

All Students in 10th or 11th grade

  • Students among the top 5% in their class for the last three years at school
  • Students with a strong commitment to pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the United States
  • Students who are mature, flexible, and can adapt to studying and living in the U.S. for 4 years.
  • Students active in sports, community projects, and/or the arts are preferred.
  • Students who cannot afford to study in the U.S. without a scholarship.

Students in 10th grade 

Who are willing to work with us to prepare intensively for SAT I test of May 2011 in order to achieve a high test score

  • Students with a good command of English who are willing to work with us to prepare intensively in order to achieve a high TOEFL score

Students in 11th grade

  • Students with a minimum SAT I test score of 1450 on the critical reading and math sections. (Please note that SAT test scores accepted are October 2010 or earlier)
  • Students with a minimum iBT TOEFL score of 80 (if available)

HOW DO I APPLY?

Students in 10th grade

Complete the online DKSSF program application and include the documents listed below:

  1. Official school transcripts for 8th, 9th (brevet), and 10th (seconde) grades and the official brevet exam grades
  2. Three letters of recommendation: school principal, English teacher and another teacher
  3. Three essays (check application for essay questions)
  4. Copies of certificates of awards, honors, achievements, community service, work experience, etc.
  5. Copies of published work if any (poetry, writings, music, drawings)
  6. Any financial documents that help support the financial aid section of the application

Students in 11th grade

Complete the online DKSSF program application and include the documents listed below:

  1. Official school transcripts for 9th, 10th and 11th grades
  2. Copy of your SAT I scores (If already available, submit with application.)
  3. SAT II scores are strongly encouraged. (If already available, submit with application.)
  4. Copy of the iBT TOEFL score or 550 on Critical Reading Section of SAT I (if available) or take the iTP exam
  5. Three letters of recommendation: school principal, English teacher and another teacher
  6. Three essays (check application for essay questions)
  7. Copies of certificates of awards, honors, achievements, community service, work experience, etc.
  8. Copies of published work, if any (poetry, writings, music, drawings)
  9. Any financial documents that help support the financial aid section of the application

Application Deadline: September 1, 2010
(Application and supporting documents must all be submitted before the deadline.)
 

Final selection will be made on the basis of the written application and interviews of selected students. The criteria for selection will be based both on merit (academic excellence and personal achievement) and financial need.
