Program Description

AMIDEAST is now accepting applications for the American Palestinian Local University Scholarships    (A-PLUS) Program, funded by the United States Department of State through the Middle East Partnership Initiative and supported by the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem. A-PLUS will award more than 30 scholarships to bright, academically promising, but financially challenged Palestinian high school seniors from Gaza, East Jerusalem and the West Bank for four-year Bachelor’s degree programs at West Bank universities, along with training and other opportunities to develop employability and professional careers.  
 
Scholarships are open to students pursuing four-year degree programs. Fields requiring more than four years to complete—such as engineering, dentistry, IT, medicine, or pharmacy—are not eligible.
 
The A-PLUS program incorporates educational advancement with practical skills training and experience to improve A-PLUS graduates’ employability and increase the number of employment opportunities relevant to their degrees and areas of interest.  

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

The A-PLUS Program will consist of three components:

  • full four-year academic scholarships at West Bank Palestinian universities for Bachelor’s degree programs in any four-year degree program  - (Degrees that require more than four years to complete—such as  engineering, dentistry, IT, medicine, or pharmacy—are not eligible)
    practical professional skills training
  • professional internship opportunities

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for the A-PLUS Program, a student must meet all of the following requirements: 

  • Must not be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident
  • Must be a legal resident of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, or East Jerusalem
  • Family unable to afford Palestinian local university tuition costs
  • Currently in the 12th grade
  • Have an overall average of 92% or better in the 11th grade
  • Expected to receive a Tawjihi score of 85% or higher
