Below are a few of the most essential Web sites for students from the Middle East/North Africa preparing for U.S. study admissions tests.
- College Board. Developer of the SAT standardized admissions test and CLEP examination for credit program. You can register, prepare for, or get additional information on SAT here as well as gathering other information related to U.S. undergraduate study.
- DSST. Similar to the CLEP but covering different academic subjects and developed by Thomson Prometric rather than the College Board, successful performance on the DANTES Standardized Subject Tests is accepted for undergraduate credit at many U.S. colleges and universities. DSST (and CLEP) are offered by all AMIDEAST Education USA centers.
- ECFMG. International medical graduates need to be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates as part of the process of registering for the U.S. Medical Licensure Examination (www.usmle.org) and applying to U.S. graduate residency programs. The USMLE is currently administered at selected Prometric centers internationally, including those at AMIDEAST offices in Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates.
- Educational Testing Service. Developer and major source of information on standardized tests: TOEFL, GRE, and others.
- GMAC. The Graduate Management Admission Council develops the GMAT, and you can register for this test, required for entry by many U.S. graduate business administration programs, on their site. GMAT is available at many Pearson VUE centers in the Middle East/North Africa. GMAC also offers a useful search engine for locating M.B.A. programs.
- GRE. The Graduate Record Examination general test is required by many U.S. graduate programs while some also require specific GRE subject tests. Links to the GRE section of the Educational Testing Service Web site.
- SAT. Links to the College Board Web site. The SAT Reasoning and SAT Subject tests, required by some but not all U.S. undergraduate programs, may be taken in many other countries in the region.
- TOEFL. The Test of English as a Foreign Language is required for non-native English speakers by most U.S. degree programs, and is available at AMIDEAST locations around the region.
