Business Networking 101 - Who Was That Again?

Course Description

In today’s complex world, being able to meet people and make new connections with ease has become a differentiator. People with great networking skills navigate job changes, economic turmoil, and business slumps more easily. Meeting new people can be intimidating. Finding things in common with people we’ve just met is often a challenge that seems insurmountable. This course will help you build skills in meeting new people, finding common ground, and maintaining your business and professional network. The course will be a mix of hands on training and group breakout exercises that allow participants the opportunity to apply concepts learned in a stress free, safe classroom environment. It focuses heavily on practicing skills and building insights to allow for greater overall effectiveness.

  • What is business networking and why do I need to be able to do it?
  • How can I get ready to network and position myself for success?
  • How can I tell people about myself without sounding like I’m bragging?
  • What can I say about my business or profession without going over people’s heads?
  • What are my networking goals?
  • What approaches are effective in networking at specific events?
  • What key things do I need to do at each event to be effective?
  • How do I follow up without seeming pushy and overstepping?
  • What does maintaining my network entail?

This course is designed for individuals who desire to improve their networking skills and more effectively represent themselves and their businesses. Attendees may include new entrants to the work-world, experienced professionals who need to network, those desiring to hone their ability to connect with others in professional and project settings. 

Prerequisites
 

This course is open to all individuals. There are no prerequisites to this course. As a foundation course, no knowledge of the topic is presumed.

Attendees of this course who are eligible for continuing education units as part of their global certifications (such as the PMP) will achieve eight (8) Professional Development Units in support of their recertification.
