Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program is a scholarship program for Tunisian high-school age students to spend one academic year in the United States. The YES program is a merit-based competition open to students who would not traditionally have access to American Secondary education and who exhibit academic excellence, leadership potential, and a desire to enhance relations between the United States and their home countries.

 

As a YES student, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Live with an American family 
  • Study at a U.S. high school 
  • Participate in a youth leadership training program 
  • Experience U.S. culture and society first-hand 
  • Improve your English 
  • Make new friends 
  • Help Americans learn about your country

Expenses covered by the YES Program

  • Airfare
  • Room and board
  • Health insurance
  • Pocket money – stipend of $125 USD per month
  • Educational supplies

Eligibility

Kennedy-Lugar YES Program eligibility requirements:

  1. You have a record of high academic achievement.
  2. You are currently enrolled in the First or Second year of secondary school (Tunisian Educational System), in Troisième or Seconde (French Educational System).
  3. You were born between July 5th, 1996 and December 9th, 1997.
  4. You demonstrate flexibility and commitment to promoting cross cultural understanding.
  5. You have leadership qualities.
  6. You meet the English proficiency requirement.
  7. You are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and were not born in the United States.

The Kennedy Lugar YES Experience

 

"YES student will be able to attend public schools and participate in various activities

 

 The “Kennedy Lugar YES program not only introduces the American culture to students from all over the Arab World but also allows them to be ambassadors of their own countries.

 

Should you be interested, please attend our Information Sessions:

 

  • AMIDEAST- Tunis: Monday, November 12th, 2012 at 4:45p.m.          
  • AMIDEAST- Tunis: Wednesday, November 28th, 2012 at 5:00p.m.
  • AMIDEAST- Sousse: Friday, November 30th, 2012 at 12:30p.m. and at 4:00p.m.

Deadline: The complete application dossier must be submitted no later than December 17th, 2012

Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.

 

How to apply?

  1. Complete an AMIDEAST preliminary YES Application 
  2. Provide a high school registration certificate 
  3. Provide official annual grade transcripts of the last three years 
  4. Provide a current photo

Pre-selected students will sit for an English SLEP test and only students who get a score of 45 or more on the test will sit for the TOEFL Junior test (http://www.ets.org/toefl_junior).
Final selection will be based on the application, grades, essays, test and interviews conducted by a local review panel.

You can submit your application directly to AMIDEAST Centers (Sousse and Tunis) or through the Ministry of Education.
