Background on Test Quality and Equivalence

TOEIC Validity and Quality. Evidence of TOEIC test excellence. You can get more detail on particular test aspects from ETS TOEIC-related research reports.

Mapping TOEIC and TOEIC Bridge Tests on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CERF). Provides equivalency between the different TOEIC family tests and CERF levels.

Comparing TOEFL and TOEIC Tests. The two tests are very different; TOEFL tests academic English while TOEIC tests English for the workplace. However, we can provide a chart with approximate score equivalencies between the TOEIC Listening & Reading test and the TOEFL institutional version (TOEFL ITP).  A second chart allows you to translate the paper-based TOEFL scale used by TOEFL ITP into TOEFL iBT equivalencies.

Comparing TOEIC Listening & Reading and TOEIC Speaking & Writing Scores. Since the TOEIC Speaking & Writing test is relatively new, more research exists focusing on TOEIC Listening & Reading score levels. This study by ETS allows rough comparison of score scales on the two tests, with a table beginning on page 11.

TOEIC Bridge. Score ranges and difficulty set for lower- and intermediate learners. For institutional use; great for English language learning centers.

TFI. The "French TOEIC." For the use of educators teaching the French language and employers seeking to assess applicant/staff ability to use French in the workplace. Can also be given to individuals based on demand level.
