Three Ways to Improve Group Performance A recent Science magazine study examined factors leading to best small team performance on varied tasks. Results showed little relationship to factors one might initially guess such as team member intelligence, group cohesion, or reported satisfaction. What did count? Teams that showed “social sensitivity,” equality in conversational turn taking, and greater proportion of women in the group did best. (The gender factor is believed to be due to women on average having more well-developed skills in the first two areas.) The BNet Business Strategy blog summarizes the study and provides a link to the full Science article. |
