Global Leaders Scholarship Program 2013

AMIDEAST invites boys and girls in Grade 11 in the Muscat and Sohar regions to apply for an after-school program that will build leadership and career skills, provide opportunities to learn about global issues, and facilitate community service activities.

The Global Leaders Scholarship Program will allow 90 Omani students to participate in a six-month after-school program that includes:

  • Model United Nations sessions - build skills in presentations, research, and negotiations
  • Community service activities - gain experience in leadership, organization, and planning
  • Career development workshops - explore career options and prepare for the future

 

 

Scholarship Selection Process

  1. Complete Application by February 16, 2013. Request an application form via email (salsiyabi@amideast.org), fax (2459-0360), on AMIDEAST’s website (www.amideast.org) or at AMIDEAST’s new office in Airport Heights or from the National Career Guidance Center in the Ministry of Education. Return the form to Ms.

NEXXT Scholars Initiative for Undergraduate Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math

NeXXt Scholars is an initiative to increase opportunities for young women to pursue undergraduate degrees in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields at U.S. women’s colleges. Benefits of this initiative include:

  • Five-year membership to the New York Academy of Sciences (four years during undergraduate studies + one year post-graduation)

  • Individual STEM Mentor and networking opportunities provided by the NYAS

  • Access to internship & research opportunities

Arab Women’s Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP)

The Arab Women’s Entrepreneurship Project (AWEP) is a Citi Foundation-funded initiative, implemented by AMIDEAST in Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, and the UAE.  In each country 20 women will compete to be selected to participate in the program and receive:  

13 Days of training on business skills, conducted in Arabic, including topics such as:

  • What makes a successful entrepreneur
  • How to register a business in Kuwait  
  • How to fund a new business or business growth
  • How to assess risk and feasibility
  • Strategic planning
  • Accounting and cash flow
  • Customer service
  • Sales skills

Women’s Individual and Social Empowerment (WISE) Program

Apply now for this one year program for 15-17 year olds females. Program activities support the goal of providing greater choices for young women through social and economic empowerment and  include English language courses, sports, leadership building activities and workshops. The four key themes of the program are: personal safety, community engagement, economic empowerment, and global communication skills.

يقدم البرنامج منحة تدريبية مجانية على مهارات اللغة الانجليزية لمدة عام وسيتم تنفيذ البرنامج خلال العام الدراسي والإجازة الصيفية لعام 2012 و ذلك للفتيات بين سن 15 و17 عاما

NACHI

North African Community Health Initiative

The North African Community Health Initiative (NACHI) will provide community health care professionals from Morocco a new set of tools, resources, and knowledge to enhance rural health care services in their respective communities. NACHI affords 12 promising professionals from Morocco the opportunity to gain practical experience in, and exposure to, the U.S. health care system and how it strives to serve citizens living in rural areas who have limited access to medical care. The knowledge and interest of these participating young professionals will be expanded through short-term fellowships in Roanoke, Virginia.

Eligibility Requirements:

North African Community Health Initiative (NACHI) offers 24 promising professionals from Morocco & Egypt the opportunity to gain practical experience in, and exposure to, the U.S. health care system and how it strives to serve citizens living in rural areas who have limited access to medical care.

(Please note: this is not a medical training program.)

To be eligible you must be:


1. Citizen and resident of Morocco or Egypt

2. Age: 25-40 years of age.

3. Education: Have a university degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree

4. English: a command of oral and written English at a proficiency to function fully and professionally in an English-speaking work environment. (If you have previously taken a paper TOFEL exam, the score should be 450 or higher.)

5. Experience: current employment and a minimum of 3 years professional experience in a relevant health care field. (See criteria #9 below for further details)

6. Available for Interview: candidates must be available for an in-person interview in either Rabat or Cairo in January, 2011.

7. Return home after program: able to meet the two year post-program home country residency requirement mandated for those participating in U.S. Department of State exchange programs.

8. Employer agreement: candidate demonstrates his or her availability for a month-long U.S. program by providing a letter of reference from his or her current employer

International Fellowship Program (IFP)

The International Fellowships Program, which AMIDEAST administers in Egypt and Palestine, provides a select number of exceptional students with the financial support necessary to pursue up to three years of graduate study at any college or university in the world. The program attracts students from diverse backgrounds but is targeted toward individuals from communities that routinely lack access to higher education. IFP seeks to instill within these future leaders the skills and knowledge needed to improve social and economic conditions within their communities. In addition to providing financial assistance for travel, living expenses and tuition, IFP also offers preliminary short-term training including language instruction, workshops on research skills, and computer training.

A total of 321 students, 172 Egyptians and 149 Palestinians, have been selected since the start of the program in 2002 and began their studies at universities throughout the world.

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational & Cultural Affairs, Legacy International and AMIDEAST are pleased to announce the launch of the North African Community Health Initiative (NACHI)

This program, which will take place over two years, provides community health care professionals from Morocco and Egypt a new set of tools, resources, and knowledge to enhance rural health care services and address some of the pressing needs in their respective communities. Particularly those who serve marginalized populations (women and children). 

Program activities will introduce the “fellows” (delegates) to transferable public health strategies, practices, and program models.  Techniques for using media to educate women and children in such topics as reproductive health, nutrition, hygiene and sanitation will also be covered.
