What is the TOEIC?
The Test of English for International Communication, or TOEIC, is an English language proficiency test designed for international workplace environments. It is taken by more people than any other English language test and is recognized as a worldwide standard for English proficiency. The TOEIC test is used by more than 4,000 organizations worldwide, and over 2 million professionals and language students take the test every year.
The TOEIC test assesses English proficiency in reading and listening from beginning to professional levels. It measures the type of English that is found in the workplace but it does not require specialized knowledge or vocabulary. Its reliable results and continuous scale allow for comparison of test-takers and careful monitoring of their progress.
What is the ITP?
Two English language proficiency tests are offered through the Institutional Testing Program (ITP)the TOEFL® ITP, designed for intermediate and advanced students of English, and the Pre-TOEFL®, for beginning- to intermediate-level students. The tests are based on past editions of paper-based TOEFL tests, making them an excellent assessment and learning tool for individuals who will eventually be taking the TOEFL.
Both the TOEFL ITP and the Pre-TOEFL are multiple-choice tests that measure listening comprehension, structure and written expression, and reading comprehension. The Pre-TOEFL also includes vocabulary questions. The TOEFL ITP takes 115 minutes to complete while the Pre-TOEFL takes 70 minutes.
