The GRE is made up of the General Test, composed of verbal, quantitative, and analytical sections, and of Subject Tests on specific academic fields. Some universities require only the General Test while others will request applicants to take Subject Tests related to their planned area of study. The GRE bulletin has additional information on these tests.
