Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP)

The International Fellowships Program, which AMIDEAST administers in Egypt and Palestine, provided a select number of exceptional students with the financial support necessary to pursue up to three years of graduate study at any college or university in the world. The program attracted students from diverse backgrounds but was targeted toward individuals from communities that routinely lack access to higher education. IFP seeks to instill within these future leaders the skills and knowledge needed to improve social and economic conditions within their communities. In addition to providing financial assistance for travel, living expenses and tuition, IFP also offered preliminary short-term training including language instruction, workshops on research skills, and computer training.

The International Fellowships Program first started in Palestine in 2001. Since then 149 fellows have been selected for the program. Approximately 80% of fellows received funding for Master’s degrees and 20% for PhDs. IFP held its last round of Fellow recruitment and selection in Palestine last year, in 2009, but continues to monitor and support fellows and engage in alumni development and other important IFP legacy-building activities.
