ExchangesConnect Photo Contest

Announcing ExchangesConnect 2010 Photo Contest: “Postcards from Home”

The Bureau of Educational & Cultural Affairs is pleased to announce the launch of the ExchangesConnect Photo Contest: “Postcards from Home.”

What does home mean to you? A special spot in your neighborhood? A community festival? A family gathering? Grab your camera, get creative and share a photo that represents your unique cultural backyard!

From Tuesday, November 9th through Friday, December 17th, 2010, people all over the world are invited to answer this question by submitting an original photo to ExchangesConnect (http://connect.state.gov). This year’s theme, “Postcards from Home: Show Us Where You’re From,” challenges entrants to creatively share personal perspectives on their own homes and cultures through a photograph and a brief description.

The contest is open to anyone age 14 and older. Two grand-prize winners (one U.S. and one non-U.S.) will receive a netbook computer, and 18 runners-up will receive a T-shirt and postcards of the top 20 submissions. Winners will be announced on January 5, 2011.

YDRC English Language Training Application

English language classes will be offered by AMIDEAST through a sub-grant from the USAID funded, EDC administered Ruwwad youth development program.  Classes will be held at Youth Development Resource Center (YDRC) facilities in Jabal Annar Club in Nablus, Al Bireh Youth Foundaton in Al Bireh, and Beit Al-Tifel Club in Hebron.  The training will include classroom sessions and online components.  Students who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate.  While the training sessions do not cost anything, the cost of books and transportation will be the responsibility of the students.

All applicants will be required to sit for an English language placement test as part of the selection and placement process for the training program.

English language training will take place over a 15 week term and begin during the middle of January, 2011.  Classes will take place three times per week, and last for two hours each.   Students will complete a total of 90 hours of classroom training and 70 hours of online lessons by the end of the program.
