The program is managed by AMIDEAST/EGYPT in conjunction with AMIDEAST headquarters in Washington, D.C. and Cairo University. In Egypt, the project will be coordinated by Matthew Kuehl, AMIDEAST’s Education Abroad Program Manager in Egypt and Dr. Dalia Khalil (Director of the CU International Students Bureau- ISB) and Dr. Hesham Osman (International Student Coordinator for the Credit Hour Programs in the CU Faculty of Engineering).
AMIDEAST manages all logistical elements of the program, including the on-site orientation, student accommodations, arrangements for excursions, and the planning of special events and extra-curricular activities. Finally, AMIDEAST provides comprehensive support to both participants and administrators in the event of any problems or unusual circumstances.
Upon arrival in Cairo, AMIDEAST Education Abroad Program students participate in an in-depth, week-long orientation designed to introduce them to Egyptian culture and daily life and familiarize them with the logistics of the program. Students stay in a hotel in central Cairo for the first few days of the on-site orientation and then move to their accommodation for the semester. The orientation combines structured informational sessions with organized activities and free time to familiarize participants with Cairo. Topics such as safety and health, cultural adjustment, program regulations, participant responsibilities and other essential information are all discussed during orientation. During the on-site orientation students also meet their professors, take language placement tests, and become familiar with the program’s IT environment.

Civil Engineering courses are taught by Cairo University Faculty of Engineering professors who all hold PhDs from leading engineering institutions in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, and other European countries. For more information on Cairo University Faculty of Engineering staff, please visit their website here.
Students in the Civil Engineering Program will take a total of 15-18 credits. In addition to the two mandatory courses offered through AMIDEAST, students will enroll in three or four (depending on a student’s preference) Civil Engineering courses taught at Cairo University and two courses offered at AMIDEAST facilities nearby CU.
In an effort to give U.S. undergraduate engineering students the opportunity to study in one of the most dynamic regions of the world, AMIDEAST is proud to offer a Civil Engineering Semester at Cairo University (CU). Although many engineers follow career paths that take them to a variety of countries, there are limited opportunities for undergraduates in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) disciplines to study abroad. This unique study opportunity in the heart of the Arab world will help to prepare future American engineers to work effectively with people from that region.
The Pyramids. Luxor and Karnak Temples. Irrigated agriculture. Water wheels. Papyrus
boats that sailed the oceans. The Nile Barrages. Suez Canal. Aswan High Dam. Preservation
of Abu Simbel. El-Salaam Water Project. From ancient times to the present, many of the
world's most impressive engineering feats have occurred in one country – Egypt.
