Data Collection

Title: Data Collection Techniques.

Dates: November 15-19, 1999; January 24-28, April 24-28, or August 14-18, 2000.

Fees: Tuition is $600. Room, board, and travel expenses are additional; hotel discounts may be available.

Description: This program is designed for managers and analysts interested in refining techniques for gathering and analyzing data. Topics covered include data collection methods; validity and its importance; control and measurement of error in sampling; primary and secondary data; design of survey instruments; and interviews and observations. Course methods include lecture, group discussion, and practical exercises. Those completing the program should be able to design a data collection plan, use sampling techniques appropriate to the situation; determine adequate sample size; use secondary data to support studies; design error-free questionnaires and increase response rate; and plan and conduct a professional interview to obtain information.

Conflict Resolution and Peace Studies

Title: Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution and Peace Studies.

Dates (1999): June 14-July 30 or June 21-August 6.

Fees: Tuition for first six credits is $1,546. For the second six, tuition is $3,120. Room, board, and travel expenses are additional.

Description: This program is designed to provide practical, theoretical, and philosophical foundations for success in mediation and peacemaking. To receive the certificate, participants must complete the following four courses, earning twelve graduate credits: "Theories of Conflict and Conflict Resolution"; "Methods of Resolving Conflict"; "Foundations of Conflict Resolution"; and an internship (or acceptable substitute). The program can be completed in one summer or through evening courses during the academic year.
