Knowledge of other cultures
can change lives profoundly. Beyond providing valuable
perspective, such understanding transforms a person
into a citizen of the world. First-hand experience through
travel abroad imparts the most vivid insight. Books,
videos, websites, and other materials can also  convey
accurate and sensitive portraits of other peoples and
their histories and cultures. AMIDEAST’s Programs
for Americans department provides opportunities to explore
and experience the many facts of Middle Eastern culture
and society. Our study abroad services to institutions
enable more Americans to experience the region personally
through study and travel customized to their needs;
our publications distribution activity makes the best
resources about the Middle East and North Africa available
to U.S. students and their teachers; and our Institutional
Membership Program supports quality educational exchange
through its services to colleges, universities, and
other educational institutions seeking to enroll students
from the region. Through these efforts, we hope to contribute
to better long-term understanding and cooperation between
Americans and the peoples of the Middle East and North
Africa.
