Mohamed Al Seraji presents at Blinn College in Texas

In celebration of International Education Week, Yemeni YES student Mohamed Al Seraji gave a presentation on Yemen at Blinn College in Bryan, Texas. Mohamed played both the Unites States and Yemen national anthems to open his presentation. He then spoke about a wide range of topics including Yemeni geography, climate, politics, culture, religion, education, economy and history. He brought to the presentation a number of items from his home country including books, traditional jewelry, pictures, posters and models of traditional Yemeni homes. He closed with an explanation of traditional Yemeni holidays and pictures of his Yemeni family celebrating those holidays. He says of the presentation, It was very good experience ... I learned a lot.

Mohammed was excited to share the rich Yemeni culture and history, of which he is very proud:

Host mother Hollyann Davis, Mohammed and host aunt
Rebecca smile together after the presentation. Mohammed
is wearing traditional Yemeni clothing, called Zana
(the white robe) and Jambiah (the dagger)

It gives me great pleasure to introduce this edition of Yemen whose unique heritage has been assiduously conserved. Yemen is truly one of the still undiscovered treasures of the world and its civilization is considered one of the world's oldest. It is known as the Arabia 'blessed' or 'Happy.

Mohamed was interviewed by local news stations KBTY-TV and 40 HRHD-ABC. His presentation also appeared in the Blinn College Weekly Review:

Mohamed is in 12th grade at Bryan High School and is enjoying Texas so much that he would like to return to United States after finishing secondary school to go to Texas A&M University. He is active in many high school activities and enjoys spending time with his host family:

I got a wonderful, amazing, interesting host family that really makes me feel like I am in my home, Yemen, and with my real family. They are so nice and kind to me. I am here with three foster kids ... believe me it is very interesting to be with them and to see them. They take me to many places all the time We have a boat and sometimes we go to the lake and do water skiing there. It is so fun.
