Fulbright Foreign Student Program: Fulbright Application In Tunisia

Guidelines For Tunisian Fulbright Student Applicants

PROGRAM SUMMARY

You are invited to apply for a Fulbright Scholarship sponsored by the United States Department of State and administered by AMIDEAST for the 2009-2010 - 2011 academic year.

There are two different Fulbright scholarships available for Tunisian students. One provides successful candidates with a maximum of two years' funding toward a master's degree (for academic years 2009-2011). The other provides graduate-level students enrolled in Tunisian DEA or doctoral programs the opportunity to conduct research in U.S. institutions of higher education for one academic year in the context of cultural and academic exchange (for academic year 2009-2010).

The scholarships cover expenses incurred for travel to and from the United States, tuition, books, health insurance, and room and board. Funding is NOT available to meet expenses related to Fulbright grantees dependents (husbands, wives, children, parents, etc).

The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) regulations prohibit medical degrees, and this has been interpreted as degrees for medical doctors, dentists, nursing, and specializations in the medical and dental fields. Per the Fulbright regulations, doctors and nurses can pursue academic degrees, such as a Masters of Public Health, and nurses can pursue degrees in Nursing Administration or Nursing Education.

Deadline: Monday, June 2nd, 2008 (late submissions will not be accepted)

A. SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Nationality: All applicants must be of Tunisian nationality.

  • Dossiers: Only students having a very strong academic background, demonstrated by their post-secondary transcripts, and at least 3 letters of recommendation from their professors will be considered.

  • Research Proposal: All applications must include a brief yet precise description of the specific research project they plan to undertake in the U.S.

  • Proficiency in the English Language: All candidates are required to pass an Institutional TOEFL exam (ITP) and should obtain a score of at least 550 points in order to be considered eligible for the program. This score corresponds to an advanced level of proficiency in general English; knowledge of specialized English in your particular domain is not sufficient. Please call Mrs. Nabila Lamouchi Massoussi at the AMIDEAST Tunis office for an appointment as soon as possible to register for the Institutional TOEFL exam (ITP). The ITP can also be taken at AMIDEAST Sahel. Cost: 72 Tunisian Dinars.
