Katreen Milhim '06 describes how she and fellow YES alumni volunteered at an ESL camp this past summer.

"As YES students we learned how important it is to volunteer through community service. We were taught how to be responsible for making a positive change in our society. After all, change begins with the youth. Firas Abd Elkader, Mona Shimi, Mona Milhim, all of the class of '06, and I volunteered at an ESL camp for children this past summer in Israel. Our English language skills came in handy as we spoke to the summer camp participants in English only. Every morning we would wake up early and help with setting up breakfast and preparing the food. We would also practice English with the primary school kids (4th-9th graders). Each of us was responsible for arranging English activities for the group of children that we were in charge of. We encouraged the children not to be shy and to feel confident in utilizing their English language skills. The children greatly
