Syed Mohammad Mehdi ’04, has been very active as a YES alumnus. Some of the projects he initiated after his return to Pakistan include filming a documentary about street kids, organizing food and clothing drives for the poor and working with children with disabilities. He also began working as in intern at the iEARN office. In his spare time, he completed his high school exams and enrolled at Iqra University in Karachi, majoring in business! Many of the YES Alumni view Syed as a natural leader; his leadership role became official when he was appointed as a YES Alumni Officer at iEARN/Pakistan’s office in March of 2007. Syed is extremely enthusiastic about alumni programming and is busy in making arrangements for the YES Pakistani Alumni Summer Volunteering Program, which is currently underway.

The YES Alumni Newsletter for the Near East and Pakistan is produced by AMIDEAST. The YES scholarship program is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Cultural and Educational Affairs and administered by several organizations. AMIDEAST is part of a consortium that includes AYUSA International, ASSE, ASPECT Foundation, Center for Cultural Interchange, Council on International Educational Exchange, iEARN, Pacific Intercultural Exchange, Sister Cities International, Youth For Understanding
