Several YES alumni visited the Community Development Center (CDC) in Sweileh on July 24 to present donations they had collected for the local community and to learn more about the center and its activities. The CDC was established seven years ago as a field office for the University of Jordan's Sociology Department. It is an active force in bringing much needed social services to the area. Over the past few months, the alumni collected items such as toys, clothing, books and food. They plan to distribute them to the community on August 1. The CDC thanked the alumni and commended their efforts, expressing a hope that this will be an ongoing group effort. The CDC in turn took the alumni on a tour of the facility. They learned about the various programs the CDC offers the local community, which include English Language exchange, tutoring primary school children, mentoring, social field work, advocacy, and awareness campaigns. The alumni were encouraged to volunteer and participate actively within the community through these different programs.
