THE
U.S. Embassy organized
a predeparture
orientation for
two of this year's
participants in
the U.S. Business
Internship Program.
(BIP).
The participants
are PricewaterhouseCoopers
senior auditor
Lamia Hassan and
MTC-Vodafone data
services product
specialist Pakiza
Abdulrahman, who
will leave for
the four-month
program on November
14.
Following a brief
orientation in
Washington, they
will travel to
academic institutions
at either Goizueta
Business School
at Emory University
in Atlanta, Georgia,
or the Fuqua School
of Business at
Duke University
in Durham, North
Carolina.
"Women have
a great potential
to become business
leaders in Bahrain,"
said Abdulrahman.
Ms Hassan said
the BIP would
offer exposure
to different cultures
and an opportunity
to work abroad.
"It will
boost my self-confidence
and give me insight
into a new work
environment,"
she said.
The BIP provides
young Middle Eastern
women with a unique
opportunity to
learn management
and business skills
while working
at U.S. corporations.
It is a part
of the Middle
East Partnership
Initiative (MEPI),
a U.S. government
program to promote
educational and
economic opportunities.
The U.S. government
supports the BIP
interns by covering
their housing,
academic fees,
round-trip travel,
a daily allowance
and health insurance.
The program is
administered by
America-Mideast
Educational and
Training Services
(AMIDEAST) and
IREX.
