Alumni particpated in a beach clean-up in La Marsa, a seaside village near Tunis.

In celebration of Earth Day, the alumni chapter organized a beach clean-up in La Marsa, a beautiful village overlooking the Mediterranean Sea located a few miles outside Tunis. Ms Ellen Bienstock, the Cultural Attachée at the American Embassy, joined the group. Students worked hard filling plastic bags with trash from all along the shore. People on the beach, who were not acquainted with the idea of seeing people volunteer to do such a cleanup for free, at first expressed their surprise. However, after a while, the onlookers started picking up trash and throwing it in the bags as a sign of help and appreciation for the initiative of the alumni. The group managed to dispose of a lot of the trash on the beach and the sand sparkled in the sun as a result. More importantly, the alumni had fun, were delighted to see their hard work pay off, and were thrilled that the local community joined in.
