Nadhem Dhidah `04, Tunisia, is currently studying in Beirut after having been granted a full scholarship from the American University of Beirut.

Hicham Koteish ’03, Lebanon, was selected as the president of the newly formed Mu Alpha Theta Club at the University of South Carolina. He is the first president of the club, which is an honors math club and it is part of a nationwide US organization. He also volunteered at a camp for people with Down’s Syndrome. He said, “It was a bit hard in the beginning but towards the end it was really a lot of fun and I've learned so much.”

Charlie Hanna `04, Lebanon, was elected for two positions at Berea College, including Resident’s Assistant and Sophomore Class Senator. He is currently in his 3rd year of undergraduate studies, pursuing a double major in economics and political science.

Khaled Diab `04, Lebanon, received a full scholarship from Berea College. He will begin his studies during the spring semester of 2008.

Maen Abou Ziki `05, Lebanon, was accepted at Cornell University Medical School in Qatar. He was offered a full tuition scholarship.

Ali Hussein `06,Yemen, who won the International English Speaking Union prize in the United Kingdom last summer, traveled to England in October and received a Certificate from Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace. He spent a week in London with his host family from Texas, who were invited to attend as well. Ali also met the President of Yemen at the Presidential Palace in Sanaa. The President generously promised him to give him a scholarship to study in the UK after he graduates from high school.

The YES scholarship program is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Cultural and Educational Affairs and administered by several organizations. AMIDEAST is part of a consortium that includes AYUSA International, ASSE, ASPECT Foundation, Center for Cultural Interchange, Council on International Educational Exchange, iEARN, Pacific Intercultural Exchange, Sister Cities International, Youth For Understanding
