Professional Training Program (PTP)

Program Summary

The Professional Training Program (PTP) makes it possible for selected individuals and institutions in Lebanon’s public and private sectors to access professional courses, conferences, and forums within the Middle East and in the United States. Since 2001, AMIDEAST has managed the USAID/Lebanon-funded program, providing an ideal means of facilitating linkages with professional colleagues and institutions throughout the region and in the United States, while upgrading the participants’ knowledge in specific professional fields.

The PTP made it possible for Lebanese teachers to work with international NGO GLOBE to strengthen environmental education in Lebanon’s schools.

Main Goals

· Complement USAID/Lebanon’s three strategic objectives:

o Expanded economic opportunities

o Strengthened foundations for governance

o Improved environmental policies and practices

· Match training needs with training providers as well as facilitate the logistics necessary for program attendance

Program Results

AMIDEAST has identified 52 training programs and provided them in Lebanon or sent Lebanese professionals to attend them either in the MENA region or in the USA.

More than 750 Lebanese professionals in a variety of fields have received PTP training between 2001 and 2009.

By selecting professionals in both the private and public sectors who are already in leading positions in their fields, the program’s impact on professional development goes beyond that of the individual participants.
