Opportunities for Disadvantaged Youth

AMIDEAST is engaged in several innovative programs that target economically disadvantaged youth across the Middle East and North Africa, challenging them to develop their communications skills, learn new skills and expand their outlook on life.

AMIDEAST believes that these programs are critical to advancing the broader goals of economic development and civil society in the region and is deeply committed to assisting these students to achieve greater personal, academic and professional success.

Our work in this area includes:

ENGLISH ACCESS MICROSCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

An exciting initiative supported by the U.S. Department of State, the Access Program is helping thousands of students develop their command of oral and written English while engaging in enrichment activities and learning about U.S. culture and values.  [ + ]

GRADUATE RESOURCE PROGRAM

For over a decade, AMIDEAST has worked with the Future Generation Foundation, a nongovernmental organization in Egypt, to implement the Graduate Resources Program, which has provided training to more than 15,000 recent college graduates in business English, computer applications, sales and customer service, and other marketable skills.  [ + ]

THE TAGHYEER PROGRAM

This program targets non-elite, socioeconomically disadvantaged school children in Mokattam, one of the poorest areas of Cairo. It works with these children in ways that will improve their prospects for future educational and employment opportunities, while helping them to contribute meaningfully to their community.  [ + ]

CAMP DISCOVERY

Camp Discovery provides an enriching, happy summer camp experience for mainly at-risk youth from refugee camps in Gaza and the West Bank. Piloted in 2007, it has been expanded in size and duration in the following summers, reaching more than 1,650 children ages 8-14 within its first four years.  [ + ]
