Youth Exchange and Study Program (YES)

AMIDEAST is now conducting selection for the U.S. Department of State’s Youth Exchange and Study Program (YES). The YES Program is an exchange scholarship for qualified secondary school students in Qatar to spend one year of study in the US. The YES pre-application form deadline is January 15, 2009. Interested students should send their applications to Qatar@amideast.org.
YES students have the opportunity to:
- Live with an American family,
- Study at an American high school,
- Experience American culture and society first hand,
- Participate in a youth leadership training program,
- Improve their English,
- Make new friends, and
- Help Americans learn about Qatar and the Middle East.
The prestigious YES scholarships cover all major expenses, including airfare, room and board, health insurance, pocket money, and educational supplies.
Applicants to the YES program must meet the following criteria:
- Have a record of high academic achievement (a grade point average of at least 70% or "good" for the preceding three years);
- Demonstrate flexibility and commitment to promoting cross cultural understanding;
- Must be at least 15 years old by August 1, 2009 and not older than 18 by August 1, 2009;
- Will be entering Grades 10 or 11 in Fall 2009;
- Meet minimum English proficiency requirements;
- Are nationals or qualified legal residents of Qatar; and
- Are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents, and were not born in the U.S.
Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of their applications and interviews with an interview panel.

Complete an AMIDEAST Preliminary YES Application and send by e-mail to Qatar@amideast.org or by post to: YES Program, AMIDEAST/Qatar, P.O. Box 6458, Doha, State of Qatar.
If you submit your application on-line, you do not need to send a paper copy.

Deadline for receiving the pre-application is January 15, 2009. Please allow enough time for applications to arrive by the deadline.
