Oman Country Information
Currency
The Omani unit of currency is the Riyal. The exchange rate
is currently 2.6 U.S. Dollars to one Omani Riyal. The Omani
Riyal may be freely converted into U.S. Dollars and vice
versa.
Language and Religion
The official language of the Sultanate of Oman is Arabic,
and the vast majority of its inhabitants are Muslims. English
is spoken throughout the country.
Weather
Oman's coasts are warm and humid year round.
Shopping
Muttrah Suq offers visitors the opportunity to shop in
a traditional bazaar. The suq boasts an array of traditional
Omani products, such as khanjars (ceremonial daggers), silver
jewelry, incense burners, and other handicrafts. Modern
shopping areas and restaurants are found throughout the
capital city of Muscat. Outside Muscat, other shopping centers
include Buraimi, Nizwa, Sur, Sohar, and Salalah. Bargaining
is encouraged.

Visitor highlights are numerous and include:
- Muttrah Suq
- Qurm Nature Reserve
- Sharqiya (Wahiba) Sands
- Musandam Peninsula
- Khareef Festival, Salalah
- Nizwa and Sohar Forts
Transportation
Private taxis are available for travel around Muscat. Air
travel is available to Salalah. Bargaining is suggested
for taxis; air transport fares are fixed.
