AMIDEAST Announces New Educational Advising Services
Muscat, Oman—November 10, 2008
AMIDEAST announced today that its “EducationUSA” Advising Center will now offer regularly scheduled information sessions on U.S. study opportunities. Free and open to the public, the sessions will cover a variety of topics such as Undergraduate Study, Graduate (Master’s Degree and PhD) Programs, The University Admissions Process, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Distance Learning, How to Identify and Apply to an Appropriate University, Choosing a Career and Selecting a Major, and Student Life in the U.S.
The U.S. Embassy officially launched AMIDEAST as an “EducationUSA” Advising Center in April, enabling the organization’s office in Qurum to provide a U.S. study library for the general public, presentations and outreach about studying in the U.S., support during the college search and application process, in-person and virtual meetings with university recruiters, and assistance for U.S. graduates returning home. Currently assisting over 130 visitors and responding to almost 200 telephone and email inquiries each month, the Center serves as an excellent resource for Omanis and expatriates seeking to study abroad. “As a U.S. graduate who had a wonderful experience in the U.S., I am eager to enable others to benefit from the wealth of academic opportunities that America has to offer,” said Salim Al Badi, AMIDEAST’s Educational Adviser and Scholarship Officer.
Starting November 18, public information sessions will be conducted twice weekly at AMIDEAST’s office on 11 Fahoud Street, near Qurum Park: Saturdays from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Mondays from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Individuals seeking more personalized assistance can schedule fee-based consulting sessions with the Educational Adviser and Scholarship Officer, who can provide guidance on the selection of specific universities that reflect the individual’s goals and academic qualifications, advice on the completion of applications, liaison with admissions offices, and assistance with pre-departure preparations.
“The EducationUSA Advising Center represents the essence of our motto, ‘Bridging Cultures, Building Understanding,’” said Sarah Jackson, AMIDEAST/Oman Country Director. “Indeed, promoting educational opportunities in the U.S. is critical to our mission of strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation between Americans and the peoples of the Middle East.”
