Kuwait Country Information
Currency
The Kuwaiti unit of currency is the Dinar. One Dinar equals
1000 fils. The US exchange rate is currently set around
328 fils to the Dollar, or 1 Dinar equals approximately
$3.28. Bills come in denominations of 20, 10, 5, 1, ½,
and ¼ Dinars.The Kuwaiti Dinar (KD) is fully convertible
and there are no restrictions on overseas remittances.
Languages
The official language is Arabic, although English is widely
spoken in business.
Shopping
Kuwait offers an array of shopping experiences from open-air
traditional souks to modern shopping malls. Souks are usually
open for two shifts from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and from 4:00
PM to 9:00PM. Some shopping malls may be open for two shifts,
while others are open all day, from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM,
7 days per week. In the souks, bargaining is expected. Most
shops are closed on Fridays.
A number of large supermarkets and co-ops remain open 24
hours per day, 7 days per week, and most offer the convenience
of ATM machines for shoppers.
Sightseeing
Points of interest in Kuwait include:
- The Kuwait Scientific Center, which boasts the largest
aquarium in the Middle East, and an IMAX theater. For more

Transportation
There are more than 50 public bus routes throughout Kuwait,
but taxis are the mode of transport most preferred by
visitors. There is a fixed rate of KD 4 from the airport
into the city. Drivers may not speak English so it is
a good idea to know the name of your destination.
