Course Description

English Language Program

AMIDEAST Alexandria continues to provide quality instruction in English for international communication. Our specialized courses this session include:

  • Advanced English for Business: Writing Skills
  • Preparation courses for the GRE and TOEFL
  • Upper and mid-level conversation classes
  • Advanced Conversation and computer courses

General EL Classes at AMIDEAST Alexandria

AMIDEAST Alexandria uses the New Interchange and Passages text book series; one of the world's most successful English courses for adult and young adult learners focusing on building proficiency levels from beginning, intermediate, upper-intermediate to advanced levels.

Instructional methods in our classrooms provide students with authentic communication opportunities. Students are taught how to use English in a variety of situations related to work, leisure, social life, and school. The underlying philosophy is that students, if exposed to authentic situations in a communicative environment, will be able to communicate effectively in the second language. Through various activities, opportunities are provided to build on students' own knowledge of the language and personalize input.

In each course at AMIDEAST Alexandria, we work on improving competency in the four skill areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing as well as improving pronunciation and building vocabulary. The primary goal of our courses is to teach communicative competence—the ability to communicate in English according to the situation, purpose, and roles of the participants. The language used in New Interchange texts is American English; however, courses at AMIDEAST Alexandria reflect the fact that English is the major language of international communication and is not limited to any one country, region or culture.

Some features of the English language training syllabus at AMIDEAST Alexandria:

  • Fresh topics containing real-world content.
  • Multi-skills syllabus: comprehensive development and practice in all skill areas.
  • Student-centered activities.
  • Extensive opportunities for thoughtful discussion in class.
  • Highly qualified, experienced, caring instructors.
  • Computer lab access with integrated supplemental materials/Internet to promote the independent learning process.
