Bahrain Programs & Services

Youth Exchange and Study Program (YES)

AMIDEAST is in the process of selecting qualified applicants for the Partnership for Learning?  Youth Exchange and Study Program (YES), a scholarship program for high-school age students.

As a YES student, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Live with an American family
  • Study at a U.S. high school
  • Participate in a youth leadership training program
  • Experience U.S. culture and society first hand
  • Improve your English
  • Make new friends
  • Help Americans learn about your country

YES scholarships cover all major expenses, including airfare, room and board, health insurance, pocket money, and educational supplies.

Applicants to the YES program must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a record of high academic achievement
  • Should demonstrate maturity, flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to promoting cross-cultural understanding
  • Private secondary school students in their home country who are currently enrolled in 9th or 10th Grade
  • Public  secondary school students in their home country who are currently enrolled in 10th Grade
  • Are at least 15 years of age but not more than 17 years of age at the time of arrival - Must be born between August 1, 1993 and August 1, 1995
  • Meet minimum English proficiency requirement
  • Must NOT be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, or have been born in the United States

Interested applicants must complete the attached preliminary application form for the 2010-2011 YES cycle and submit it along with the school transcript for year 2008-2009 and a passport bio-page by the DEADLINE OF JANUARY 3, 2010

THE APPLICATION FORM ALONG WITH THE SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT AND PASSPORT COPY MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE AMIDEAST OFFICE ON THE P.O. BOX ADDRESS BELOW OR AS A SCANNED COPY ON THE EMAIL ADDRESS BELOW BY JANUARY 3, 2010.  REGISTRATION FORMS RECEIVED AFTER THIS DATE WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of their applications and interviews with a review panel. Current applicants should note that individual and group interviews will be conducted by the review panel in Bahrain.  Please phone the office for further information.
