Amideast Cosponsors TESOL Arabia 2015

Amideast was pleased to join with ETS Global as joint Platinum Sponsors of TESOL Arabia 2015, the largest professional development opportunity for English language professionals in the region. The conference, which took place on March 12-14, 2015, in Dubai, ranks as the third largest such event in the world.

Amideast and ETS collaborated in providing a range of activities for teachers and other English-language professionals. These included a Propell® teacher development workshop on effective teaching to prepare for both the TOEFL® test and real life language needs. Amideast offers Propell workshops region-wide, offering teachers an opportunity for a credentialed professional development course.

Amideast also joined ETS in hosting a large exhibition booth displaying TOEFL and TOEIC® test informational materials as well as demonstrations of key online and other tools for teaching and test preparation.

ETS Global is a subsidiary of ETS (Educational Testing Service). It develops, administers, and scores more than 50 million tests annually, including the TOEFL, TOEIC, GRE®, and Praxis® tests. In addition, ETS conducts educational research, analysis, and policy studies and develops a variety of customized services and products for teacher certification; English language learning; and elementary, secondary, and postsecondary education.

Amideast administers more tests than any other organization in the Middle East and North Africa as well as being an innovator in English language education. Its training centers in 12 countries across the region enroll tens of thousands of individuals each year in English language courses as well as professional skills training. Most recently, Amideast introduced the Professional Certificate in English Language Teaching (PCELT) in partnership with World Learning/SIT Graduate Institute and the GE Foundation. This 120-hour, U.S.-accredited program offers current and aspiring teachers of English a professional development opportunity that emphasizes hands-on experience and practical application for a wide range of teaching situations.

“Being able to contribute to TESOL Arabia has been a valuable experience for us,” commented Amideast Country Director Mary Corrado. “We look forward to continuing to expand our support for the English language teaching community, and hope to hear from those who may not have been able to attend the event so that we can keep them updated on new programs and activities.”
