The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program was established in October, 2002 to provide scholarships for high school students (15-17 years) to spend up to one academic year in the U.S. The program is vital to expanding communication between the people of the United States and its partner countries in the program in order to promote mutual understanding and respect. Students live with a host family, attend a U.S. high school, engage in activities to learn about American society and values, acquire leadership skills, and help educate Americans about their countries and cultures.

 

The program supports students with disabilities and encourages their participation.
 

YES SCHOLARS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:

 
  • Live with an American family
  • Study at a U.S. high school
  • Participate in a youth leadership training program
  • Experience U.S. culture and society first hand
  • Improve their English
  • Make new friends
  • Help Americans learn about Jordan and Jordanian culture
 
 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

• Born between January 1 and July 31, 1998
• Be at least 15 years of age by August 1, 2013, and no older than 18.5 by August 1, 2013 
• Have an overall grade of “B+” (85%) or better in English
• Meet a minimum English proficiency requirement, which will be measured by a test
• Demonstrate flexibility and a commitment to promoting cross-cultural understanding
• Shouldn’t be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or previous applicant for immigration to the U.S.
 

 

YES SCHOLARSHIPS COVER ALL MAJOR EXPENSES, INCLUDING:

 
  • Airfare
  • Room and board
  • Health insurance
  • Pocket money
  • Educational supplies  

 

COMPLETED APPLICATIONS MUST BE DELIVERED IN PERSON TO THE AMIDEAST/AMMAN OFFICE BY THURSDAY JANUARY 17th!
