Guidance Notes For Applicants

The Open Society Foundations / University of Nottingham scholarship aims to provide opportunities for independent postgraduate study in the United Kingdom for students who have demonstrated both academic excellence and the potential to become leaders, decision-makers and opinion formers in their own country. Upon completion of their studies in the UK, scholars are expected to return to their home country to resume their studies or work there. Subject to satisfactory progress, the scholarships lead to the award of a Master’s degree.

The scholarship endorses Master’s degree in: MPA Public Administration , MPH Public Health (International Health), MA Environmental Management, LLM in Human Rights Law (modules relating to Mental Disability and International Human Rights are available within these courses), LLM International Law, MA Social and Global Justice, MA Global Citizenship, Identities and Human Rights, MA International Social Policy.

Each scholarship at the University of Nottingham provides one year tuition fees, a stipend to cover living expenses (for one person only) and return air travel to the scholar’s home country.

The scholarship is open to Egyptian Eligible applicants who must:

1. Be nationals of, and resident in one of the selected countries during the academic year in which they apply for the award; applicants who are temporarily out of the country (for a total period of less than three consecutive months) may be treated as being resident;
2. Display intellectual ability and leadership potential;
3. Already hold a Bachelor degree or an equivalent standard to a good UK second-class Honors degree with a minimum grade “Good”;
4. Applicants will be required to have passed an English proficiency test before being offered a Scholarship. Local representatives of the Open Society Scholarship Programs will arrange tests for short-listed candidates after the interviews, if applicants have not already successfully taken a test in the 2 years prior to the interview.
5. Return to their home country at the end of their scholarship period to continue their studies/work there.

Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously studied outside of their home country.

*Employees, employees’ relatives (or former employees who have left employment less than two years before) of the local representative offices of the Open Society Scholarship Programs and the participating universities will not be eligible to apply for these awards.

The Eligible applicant can obtain application forms from AMIDEAST/Egypt.

The Eligible applicant will need to fill out:

1) The University Postgraduate Application Form (including reference form and equal opportunities form): please read it carefully and enclose all additional documents requested in the application form.

2) The separate Scholarship Application Form. (click on "Apply Now")

3) The Self-Assessment Form whereby you acknowledge your compliance with the eligibility criteria for this scholarship programme.

The completed forms and supporting documents must be returned to your local representative office of the Open Society Scholarship Programs at the address below by February 1, 2013. One original set of the application pack and two copies of the application package must be submitted.

The Deadline is February 1, 2013
