LEED® AP Building Design & Construction Exam Preparation

Course Duration

2 days (16 hours)

Course Overview

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. For professionals participating in the design and construction phases of high-performance, healthful, durable, affordable, and environmentally sound commercial, institutional, and high-rise residential buildings, the LEED AP Building Design + Construction (BD+C) exam is designed to measure your knowledge and skill in understanding the LEED Rating System and ability to facilitate the project certification process.  This course helps participants understand and prepare for the LEED AP BD+C exam.  Additionally, the course will provide an advance preview of LEED 2012 and explore as to how LEED compares to the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council’s Estidama program (Jourdan Younis is also an instructor for Estidama).

Course Objectives

This course will be an introduction to the concepts of sustainable, high performance green buildings, as well as methods for designing, constructing and evaluating them. The emphasis will be on reviewing the fundamentals of the LEED 2009 for New Construction and Major Renovations Rating System and the relevant LEED certification process as per LEED Version-3 requirements.

Accordingly, the course will provide key preparatory information about the needed tools and technical expertise for taking both the LEED Green Associate exam (part 1) and the LEED AP BD+C specialty exam (part 2).  Moreover, the course will provide project teams with the necessary procedures and technical tools for planning, designing and constructing LEED certified projects.

Workshop on Autism

WORKSHOP: AUTISM

PLACE:  AMIDEAST, CERT Technology Park, Muroor Street, Abu Dhabi

DATE:  19th January, 2010

TIME:  9:00a.m. - 12:00p.m.

COST: AED250, per participant

CERTIFICATE:  Certificate of Completion & Participation

Autism afflicts one out of every 100 to 166 children and it affects the lives of many children and their families (DiCicco-Bloom et al, 2006). It tends to affect about five boys to every one girl (First, 2008).

Can you identify autistic children in your classroom? Do you know what to look out for? Would you know the difference in the behavior of an autistic child as opposed to one that was suffering from Asperger Syndrome?

Workshop on ADD/ADHD

How common are learning difficulties? More common than you would imagine. About 25% or more of your class could be sufferring from a learning difficulty without you even being aware that this is so. In the USA, as many as 1 out of every 5 people has a learning disability. Almost 3 million children (ages 6 through 21) have some form of learning disability and receive special education in school.

That might sound shocking, and it is, but not as shocking as having the same number of children in schools throughout the UAE who get ignored because their teachers haven't been trained to identify learning difficulties and to put into place coping strategies for those children affected.

Workshop on Dyslexia

What causes? What are the different types of dyslexia? What are the signs and symptoms of dyslexia, and if you had a child in your classroom that had this learning disability, would you know how to help him?

Come to the workshop on dyslexia in Abu Dhabi, and learn the answers to these questions. In addition, learn some strategies and techniques to implement in your classes and give your students coping and compensation skills to help with this very difficult, but common, learning difficulty.

No child should be left behind, but those who get passed from one teacher to the next, pushed through from this grade to that grade without learning anything along the way is a situation all too common these days.
