Skills in English for Engagement and Dialogue Program (SEED)

AMIDEAST is pleased to announce the launch of the Skills in English for Engagement and Dialogue (SEED) program. The Skills in English for Engagement and Dialogue is a program of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo’s Public Affairs Office. It is a one year and a half comprehensive professional development program for Moslem and Christian graduates and scholars of religious studies located in Alexandria and Mansoura.

 Program Goal

The program aims to enhance the English language and dialogue skills of young Moslem and Christian religious leaders, clergy and scholars, male and female. The program goals are to enable program participants to engage in cross cultural dialogue both locally and on a global level, to increase mutual understanding on cultural levels, and to improve their conflict management skills.

AMIDEAST is pleased to announce an English Language Program for Egyptian Civil Servants. The program is administered by AMIDEAST at the request of the American Consulate of Alexandria and provides an academic scholarship for one year.

The program consists of English language training and professional development training for government employees who work in Alexandria, Port Said , Khafr El Sheikh , El Beheira and El Gharbia governorates.

 

Program Description:

The program objectives are to increase the English language proficiency of participants and develop their work aptitude through targeted language and professional training modules.

Guidance Notes For Applicants

The Open Society Foundations / University of Nottingham scholarship aims to provide opportunities for independent postgraduate study in the United Kingdom for students who have demonstrated both academic excellence and the potential to become leaders, decision-makers and opinion formers in their own country. Upon completion of their studies in the UK, scholars are expected to return to their home country to resume their studies or work there. Subject to satisfactory progress, the scholarships lead to the award of a Master’s degree.

The Research/Publication awards of the Global Faculty Grants Program offers Fellows the time, space and resources necessary to conduct research leading to publication in an internationally-recognized peer reviewed journal. The program aims to promote original research within the social sciences and humanities and to increase the international mobility of scholars in countries of focus. The program supports well-established scholars who occupy responsible and influential positions at home universities to pursue research visits of up to 5 months to any accredited higher education institution worldwide.

The Legislative Fellows Program (LFP) is sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and administered by Legacy International. This program is designed for people with strong leadership skills who are early- to mid-career professionals. It is for visionary individuals committed to making a lasting impact in the areas of public service and social development.

Eligible candidates must be:
  • A citizen and resident of Egypt, Libya, or Tunisia.

  • Between 25 and 35 years of age.

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).

  • Have a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in one or more of the following area: policy development, legislation, service and/or volunteer work, civil society organizations, community activism, unions or labor law, government administration, elections, voter education, social innovation and activism.

Deadline: December 30th, 2012.

Note: Preference will be given to candidates who have NOT previously traveled to the U.S. on a government-sponsored exchange program.
