How To Apply:

Students must complete the pre-application online, and send it back to AMIDEAST to the e-mail address provided below by no later than November 30th.

To be eligible, you must:

• Be a citizen or permanent resident of Libya.
• Born between July 1,1996 and August 1, 1998 to meet the age requirement.
• Be enrolled in high school at the time of application
• Have the equivalent of a B average or better, without any failing grades.
• Have not completed more than 11 years of primary education nor received a high school diploma by the start of the program.
• Demonstrate sufficient English language ability to speak and study in English, with a minimum SLEP score of 46*.
• Meet the U.S. visa eligibility requirement.

* These degrees require over 120 credits for graduation.  Students will only be accepted to these majors if they meet the additional requirements of that major (such as prerequisite science classes) and if they do not need pre-academic English courses (students with an IELTS score of under 6.0 may require pre-academic English).

As of January 30, 2003, all sponsoring organizations are required to register students on the Student Exchange Visitors Information System (SEVIS). We have prepared this information sheet to help you understand SEVIS and your responsibilities.

What is SEVIS?

SEVIS is an internet-based database that allows schools and other sponsoring organizations to transmit data regarding students to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). Information (see list below) is logged into the database to notify the INS about any significant change or pertinent action taken in the student's academic career in the United States. U.S. embassies and consulates also have access to SEVIS.

We are working to engage women and girls across the region in educational and training opportunities that help them realize their full potential, contribute to the economic security of their families, and advance their societies.

The many scholarship and exchange programs AMIDEAST administers have benefitted an increasing number of bright young women from the region who are returning home with skills and knowledge that will change their lives for the better. In addition, several programs have sought to single out women to help strengthen their role in society as professionals, as educators, and as critical actors in civil society.

Through a handful of small specialized scholarship programs and scholarship search funds, AMIDEAST is working to open new doors for bright, non-elite youth to opportunities for higher education in the United States or at American-style universities in the region.

AMIDEAST is actively engaged in a number of initiatives that are helping to expand global understanding "one person at a time."

Exchange programs for young people who otherwise would not have the opportunity to live in and directly experience American culture and society continue to be one of the best ways we know to build bridges of international understanding between Americans and people from different cultural backgrounds.

For over 40 years, AMIDEAST has been proudly associated with the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, one of several programs committed to preparing leaders capable of meeting the challenges of the future.

For over 50 years, AMIDEAST has been a leader in the area of fellowship and scholarship management.  We have supported thousands of individuals from the Middle East and North Africa who have come to this country on scholarship and exchange programs to study for long and short periods of time.

These cross-cultural programs remain unparalleled as a means for improving and advancing understanding and dispelling stereotypes and misinformation.
