The Nahdhat Shabab Project

The Nahdhat Shabab Project is a training program funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by AMIDEAST. The Nahdhat Shabab Project will train 600 Yemeni youth in vocational, professional, and employability skills. The Project’s trainees will gain real-world experience in improving their communities and stimulating critical economic recovery that supports post-conflict governance mechanisms in Yemen. 

The Nahdhat Shabab Project coordinates with numerous local partners and other diverse community actors through Community Advisory Boards (CABs); links 100 youth to mentors in their communities; and enables the youth trainees to become involved in 20 community rebuilding, restoration and recovery projects at selected community spaces.

ABOUT YESSF

AMIDEAST is pleased to announce the Yemen Emergency Student Support Fund (YESSF), established for Yemeni citizens on F-1 visas currently enrolled at an accredited U.S. institution of higher education. Funds are available to help cover living expenses, books, and some institutional costs for Yemeni students whose financial status has been directly impacted by the current crisis in Yemen.

Internship Program

The AMIDEAST/Yemen Internship Program is designed to give university students and recent graduates (priority will be given to those who graduated less than than two years before the date of application) an opportunity to gain relevant work experience in a professional environment. Interns have the opportunity to work in one of many areas offered by this program, gaining experience in the use of the English language as well as developing administrative skills. The minimum commitment is six months, and preference is given to those who have strong English skills and no prior work experience. Each intern is given a pre-determined assignment and workspace, which vary according to the individual’s skills and interests and the nature of his/her assignment. Interns are supervised directly by a staff member and are under the overall coordination and mentorship of the Internship Program Coordinator. In addition, interns are also offered a fifty percent discount on English Language instruction at AMIDEAST, with many interns pursuing English classes alongside their internship commitment.

This program is offered in both AMIDEAST/Yemen offices in Aden and Sana’a, though each program is tailored to fit the needs of each locale. Serving as an intern is an exciting training and work experience that will enhance one’s professional and language skills, opening doors for future employment.

Aspire: The Internship Training Program

The Internship Training Program, Aspire, is a competitive workforce skills-development program for Yemeni youth, funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of State and administered by AMIDEAST. The program aims to equip recent high school and university graduates with the skills they need as they begin their careers.

Aspire started in December 2014 and will end in March 2016. Over a total of ten months, interns in Sana’a and Aden will receive on-the-job training within various AMIDEAST departments, participating in English language, computer, and professional skills training, and receive ongoing mentoring in career building.

Rural Teacher Training Program (RTTP)

The Rural Teacher Training Program (RTTP), funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of State, aims to increase the quality of English teaching in rural areas in Yemen by providing sustained teacher and language development training over a two-year period to selected and qualified teachers. 

During the first phase of the program, the teachers reside in Aden, during which period AMIDEAST provides an array of full-time training, including language teaching pedagogy, direct English language training, use of American culture in English teaching, classroom observations, and teacher practicum.

Professional Certificate in English Language Teaching (PCELT)

English Language Training Fellowship Program

The AMIDEAST English Language Training Fellowship Program program helps graduates from the English Department within the Aden University Faculty of Education improve their English language skills as well as enhance their teaching skills and methodology.

Diana Kamal Scholarship Search Fund (DKSSF)

AMIDEAST/Yemen is pleased to offer the unique opportunity for highly-qualified students to receive assistance in identifying a scholarship for a bachelor’s degree at an institution in North America or in-region!

AMIDEAST’s own Diana Kamal Scholarship Search Fund supports fees associated with testing, institution applications, visa expenses, limited travel expenses, book fees, health insurance (if required), as well as up to $2,000/year for incidental expenses while enrolled at university.

AMIDEAST staff work with the nominated candidates to apply to up to four prestigious institutions in North America or in-region; if the student is accepted, the institution will provide the scholarship that covers tuition and fees. Nominated students will be expected to help cover living expenses and other miscellaneous costs.

DEADLINE TO APPLY: 11:59 P.M. Yemen time, Thursday, May 11, 2017.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

  • Students entering 12th grade; students who will take grade 12 exams in 2017; or students who graduated in 2016 who are in their gap year and are not enrolled in university; or YES alumni currently in the U.S.
